A summary critique of Amazon's Kindle DX ebook reader product.
The Kindle was introduced relatively quietly, so you may not have been aware of its initial release. The Kindle seemed to release under the radar, especially when compared to other tech products, such as the iPhone or the newer editions of Windows.
If you love to read, the product probably caught your interest. Popularity increased after the release of the updated Kindle 2. Amazon is now number one in the ebook reader market thanks to the new, state-of-the-art Kindle DX.
But is this popularity attained properly or is it only hype created by a new technology? To be reasonable, it has a blend of both.
Although the Kindle is has not been perfected, this is an easy, light and fast way to carry lots of your favorite books wherever you want them to go! This ease of trasport is almost unique to this book. The Kindle DX is fairly large, about the size of a regular sheet of paper but much thicker; it can hold more than 3000 books' worth of data. It would take a pretty sizable backpack to lug that many volumes along.
While other e-book readers now match the Kindle 2, no one compares with the Kindle DX. The new Amazon made reader is heads and tails above all others on the market. Whether it is greater memory capacity, a more readable screen or the whirling views ala the iPhone, the Kindle DX is unequalled in its features.
However, it has yet to be matched in terms of cost either.
Expense is likely to be the main factor explaining why a lot of folks don't own a DX and might never have one. With a pricetag of $500, you would think that the reader would come with a lot more options. Copy protection severely limits the device's usefulness, plus you're limited to grayscale viewing and you get no promotional books or cover art. For the amount of money you're spending, why can't you get more for your money?
Even though the Bebook reader happens to be my favorite, Kindle seems to be poised to become the most favored ebook reader. Also make sure you check out the Elonex ebook reader.
